    Hi guys,

Im looking for a way to apply a higher resolution to a screen than physically supported.

I know that its physically impossible, but a rendered down version of 4k still has some practial uses, if your screen does not has to be pixel perfect, it can be very handy.

Before people say thats not possible: I know this is possible and i can prove it. I have a work notebook with 4k resolution, and in my homeoffice im using older Dell screens with 1920*1200 resolution (Dell U2314m i think).

If i now use my internal notebook screen at 4k and choose to mirror to one external screen, voila: crappy 4k on a 1080p screen, its somehow rendered down.

    4k on a 1920*1200 screen

4k on a 1920*1200 screen, detail shot. Even though its blurry, its still readable!

Is it possible to "force" these unsupportet resolutions?

    Thanks in advance

If you need to know - Usecases where it can be helpful to emulate higher resolution:

    - Testing the rough design of a app/website on bigger resolutions

    - show full app / block the app from collapsing (i use 1 screen for microsoft teams and outlook, 50/50. teams doesnt show me the contacts list anymore if i only use half of my FHD screen)

    - i have one 2.5k screen and 2 FHD screens left and right, if i can "emulate" 2.5k on the FHD screens i could play games on 3 screens with 3x2.5k instead of forcing the 2.5 down to FHD.

    - game graphics could benefit from being rendered at a higher scale, idk whats thje name for that procedure but my friend always renders at 8k but outputs at 4k for less artifacts or whatever

Scaling screen to less than 100%

I am sorry the minimum scale factor is 100%

What you could do is to temporarily set your resolution to a higher resolution in order to fit that app on your screen.

Right click your Desktop, choose Display Settings and set it from there, if you get an 'Out of Range' error, do nothing and it will come back itself after 10 seconds . . .

  3. Windows 10 - screen resolution

Scale and layout is a different option from Resolution.

Open Start > Settings > System > Display

Click in the Resolution list box then choose the recommended resolution or a higher size supported by your display driver.
