Windows 10: Highighting text in Kindle for PC in Win 10

I just downloaded the Kindle for PC app and am reading a book. When I try to select a few words to highlight, the text moves. I can highlight one word at a time, but not more. I'm sure there is a way to do this, but I haven't been able to do it. (I can do it on my Kindle Cloud reader, but this book won't open in KCR.)

• Are you able to read the notebooks in other apps?

Upon analyzing the details provided in this thread, you can troubleshoot your
Kindle Fire
by updating the
MTP USB Device driver. To do this, follow these steps:

• 
  On the search bar, type
  Device Manager
  and hit
  Enter.
  
• 
  Click
  View
  and choose
  Show hidden devices.
  
• 
  Locate
  Kindle Fire
  in your
  Device Manager,
  right-click
  and choose
  Update driver.
  
• 
  A popup window will appear and choose
  "Browse my computer for driver software".
  
• 
  Click on
  "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".
  
• 
  Select
  Portable Devices
  and click
  Next.
  
• 
  Uncheck
  the
  "Show compatible hardware"
  checkbox, select
  MTP USB Device
  and click
  Next.
  
• 
  Restart
  PC.
  

After updating the
MTP USB Device driver, update your
Kindle Fire
and check if there are any changes.

Kindle for PC App unable to register my device

With the new Windows 10 update, I have not been able to register my laptop computer as a device to sync my amazon library. After speaking with tech support with Kindle for over an hour, they weren't able to help me find a solution other than telling me that
"there is a problem with the https." And they suggested that I contact Microsoft. I have added the Kindle for PC app to my exemptions list for Windows Firewall, but still no progress. Any more suggestions?

Also, I've called Windows' support, but the wait time on the phone was over an hour and a half...
