    Hello, I bought a computer online a few years ago and it seem a that windows was not working very well but I continued using it. A few weeks ago i saw strange things on my phone and computer pop up and it seemed like i got highjack/scamed. Therefore I reset my computer and it asked me for a key that i didnt have since i bought the computer online local marketplace but it still seems strange. I bought a key from sofwarekeep and i resorted my computer. Is there a way to find out if my computer was highjacked. Thank you,Jaime

    keep getting highjacked by/to cbnnd.com. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the suggestions, but since I already reset the hosts file once, I'm not sure what doing it a second time would accomplish.

    And I did turn on the 'rootkit' setting in Malwarebytes, re-scanned the laptop and it didn't find anything. Then when I scanned the laptop with Windows Defender, it found the hosts file highjacked again.

    I tried Malwarebytes, it found nothing. I replaced the hosts file per MS instructions and set it to read only, the replacement file came up as highjacked on the next Defender scan.

    So, I'm open to other suggestions, but unless I get another ransomware email or something changes with the laptop performance-wise, I'm going to ignore this 'malware' threat.
