For facts and my question, skip down to the Bold type.

For story mode, continue this way -> So I've been experiencing some strange things lately and I've attributed it mostly to malware, paranoia left over from a recent ordeal with malware and, of course, witches. So I buddied up with Event Viewer and found a bunch of interesting, paranoia-stoking ****. Of the many unhappy moments I had viewing events, Powershell and it's hundreds of entries. Now, I don't use Powershell, so I thought I'd give it a gander and it sure seems SOMEONE's been at it.. But I've got all remote access stuff disabled and everything I could think of, which isn't enough, admittedly. And asking Google about a lot of the other issues I was experiencing led to resolutions involving group policy. I run Windows 10 Home and found out through the interwebs that it doesn't use group policy, so I was safe.

Anyway, I didn't know how to uninstall it and I was mad and, if I'm honest, feeling a bit violated... so naturally I hobbled Powershell. Navigated to its home, knocked down the door, changed all the permissions and deleted everything I could I left the xml files. Then I went to settings and uninstalled it like you do.

I look back later at event viewer, and there are new Powershell entries. It's back version 1, by the way but it's not visible from where I uninstalled it or anything... So I open a run dialog, type Powershell and there it is. Freak out, freak out, freak out I calmly looked up PSs vulnerabilities and there are many. Short story long, I discovered that group policy IS available for 10 Home, PS is the Benedict Arnold and I'm up to my ears in Group Policy events. 1,717 of them since the 23rd. Little mice scurrying around behind the walls, waiting until I log off and then Foreground Syncronicity..... my own personal Soap Opera. After I recovered from the heart attack, I found out what I could about it, installed gpedit.msc through Benedict Arnold...sumbitch and I'm suddenly looking at even more stuff I don't understand. So I read and ended up going into the registry to disable Group Policy there. And here we are.

I believe Powershell aided someone in enabling group policy on my Windows 10 Home PC. I have since disabled group policy, but I don't know how to secure Powershell so I'm concerned my efforts will have been in vain in a short while. I haven't yet found any evidence of witches' involvement. Any help would be well-appreciated.

    xoxo Joe

    GROUP POLICIES IN WINDOWS 10

You can change Group Policies by opening Group Policy Editor first. You can open it by following these steps:

    • Log in an administrator account. If you are already logged in as an administrator, proceed to step 2.
    • Press Windows + R to open Run.
    • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

After opening Group Policy Editor, you can now make the necessary changes that you want.

Should you have more concerns, feel free to post.

    Regards.
