Windows 10: Home Wifi not detected, but Neighbors and Mobile is.

Hey guys, me again.


So I have factory restarted the modem, made it seperate it's 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels.

I have done everything recommended to my TP-Link USB Wireless Adaptor.

I can't update my version of Window due to lack of internet and even when I could, it still wouldn't let me due to different errors.

I have done the Network at least 100 times.


I rang Windows support but they want me to pay $40 to fix the damn problem that I am thoroughly convinced that was created in the last OS update.


Please help before I sell this thing and buy an Apple PC.

Unable to detect home WiFi after upgrading from Window 7 to Window 10

Before upgrading, I can connect to my home WiFi and also able to detect neighboring WiFis.

After upgrading, I can still detect neighboring WiFis, but I cant detect my home WiFi.

Downgrading to Window 7 fixed the issue.

Information that might help:

• I do not have VPN installed.
• I tried to turn off real time protection, uninstalled antivirus, turned off firewall.
• Updated my wifi adapter through device manager (it was already updated it said).

Second problem:

However, on Window 7, I am unable to connect to my mobile phone HotSpot (for gaming, WiFi is unstable for this purpose). Upgrading to Window 10 solved this.

Mystery Phone Listing on Network


That's actually been happening in Windows for a long time, even back to windows 8 I was seeing it randomly appear (it can be different devices). It seems to be some kind of false positive detection.

Some suggest that this is neighbors connecting to your wifi network. The idea is that the MAC address may be propogated, even though these neighbors are not actually authorized for your network (ie, your router is advertising these mac addresses, but they can't actually use your network, but for some reason they still show up in the list of connected devices).

When you check your WIFI router, the devices won't be listed there, since they haven't been given IP's.. but something in the network architecture still allows MAC advertisement.

 

Cannot set WiFi mobile modem to security-enabled network on windows 10

I use a Telstra USB Mobile modem with WiFi on windows 10. The PC connect to the internet but the WiFi signal is detected by neighbors that abuse downloading. I cannot find in Windows 10 how to set the WiFi to security-enabled network.

The same modem is used on a laptop with Windows Vista where WiFi is set to security-enabled network, and not a problem.
