    HomeGroup Event ID 8021...Need Help

My son came over last night and messed up my pc after I went to bed...
I fixed everything but I kept getting this error.
    My wife's PC is YGG-PC-2.

So I got rid of my homeGroup but the error kept on...
This Key seems to be the one causing the problem.

It keeps trying to call home looks like around every two hours or so.
I found a post that said to disable "Computer Browser" if no files were being shared theservice was not needed.
So I disabled it and the error seems to be gone. But the thing is, I need to get to my wife's printer. So I need to get (rid or disable) this key so it will not start calling home when I start a new Home-group.
    Here is the Computer Browser...

Any Help will be Greatly Appreciated...Thanks...

  3. Browser services in Windows 10?

I have three PCs on my home network - two running Windows 10 and one on Vista (waiting to upgrade it). When I upgraded the second PC, I started getting warning messages on the first about "The browser service was unable to retrieve a list of servers from
the browser master..." and shows the browser master as the second PC. [Event ID 8021].

All of the references I find for BROWSER services talk about Windows XP, NT and Server 2000. Also, when I go to the Event Log Online Help from Event Viewer, it takes me to a Page not found message on Microsoft Support.

Should this service even be running? If not, how do I shut it down?

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi Raner.

You didn't say what son did or how you fixed. Any chance you are using wireless and the Network was set to public instead of private? I would also reset your router (power down, restart) and ensure you boot wife's computer.

    I found this article.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-event-id-8032

Looks pretty involved. Since it was working I might skip to easier approach.

Which PC was the Homegroup originally establish on, the one that provided password? You said you removed Home Group. I think I would remove Homegroup from your wife's machine as well and then try the complete Homegroup set up.

Next I would run these four commands, which reset various components and then I would reset your Windows 10 network.

To command prompt(admin) enter these commands (don't type in stuff in brackets, there for your info.)

ipconfig /flushdns (Clear the dns cache)
nbtstat -RR (release and refesh NetBIOS names)
netsh int ip reset (reset ip settings)
netsh winsock reset (Reset Winsock Catalog)

To reset Win 10 Network, Start => Settings => Network and Internet => scroll down right side to bottom. This will cause you to forget all wifi passwords.

You said you need this to share your wife's printer. If I were you I would look at putting your wife's printer directly on the network. This would mean you could print even if your wife computer is powered down. It also allows printer to be accessed from other devices like tablets. Depending on printer she could remain hard wired.

I should mention there have been a number of sharing issues with Creator and I'm not sure this isn't just one of them. Are either of your PC's running Creator Update, V1703.

Thank you very much for the reply, Caledon Ken...
As far as what happen, I really don't know. But, I lost all my restore points, the mouse was locking up, and a bunch of errors
including this one, I had never seen the error before. Anyway the good news is good everything back to normal but I was stuck
on this, hardly no info in the web related to it.
I do have wifi but the two computers in question are hard wired to spectrum modem/router.
I went the easy way you provided. Everything all done.
    I do have one question.
After I was done, I checked the registry and entry causing the problem is still there.

  6. Myself, I would leave it. Things are working and one line in registry won't hurt.

Should you decide you want to delete I would learn how to backup and restore registry.

    Hey Raner,
I would not delete that CMPOL registry key, it's not what's causing the issue. If your still getting Event Id 8021 you can try the following on your Win10 PCs ...

Services - Computer Browser set to Manual
Registry - Edit the following key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters
    MaintainServerList
    is No

Hi, Eagle...I checked the registry as per your post...
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\ParametersParameters/
"MaintainServerList" was set to "Auto", I changed it to "No".
Then I changed back the setting on "Computer Browser" that I had edited.
I set it back to "Manual". I monitored the event viewer for 6 hours and no Event ID: 8021.
So looks like were good to go... Thanks for the help Eagle I really do appreciate it...

    Hey Raner,
Great and changing the MaintainServerList key is just a workaround until MS fixes the Network Discovery/Master Browser issue *Smile

I won't hold my breath, While I wait for Microsoft to get off this Butt.
The other thing that is a real joke is the trouble shooter tool, I have never gotten nothing but "Could not detect a problem"...LOL...
