Windows 10: Host file entries slow down startup connection to wifi

I've added about 80,000 entries in the host file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts in order to block ads, junk websites, and porn. As a result, on startup, my initial connection to the internet is slow. I get the globe icon no connection for about 2 minutes, then I am connected to my default network and everything works just fine. I am currently on a Predator Helios 300 2019. This same problem has occurred on my Surface Book 2 2017. However, I have not experienced this issue on my Acer spin 5 from 2015. Has anyone else experienced this issue, and found a solution?

Browser /connection security, hosts file and DNS service

You're saying that Open DNS(and other services like it) house their own list of known 'bad' sites, and by using their DNS servers, it will filter out sites based on that list?

Would you believe I was already using Open DNS servers.
This means the hosts file is moot?

And furthering that, if there's any bespoke sites I want to manually add, I could do it through my router directly.

Thus I can empty my local hosts file and turn my DNS service back on?

 

Slow Startup

Does anybody know why I am having really slow system startups? I don't have extra startup programs than I use to have. The only thing that I think it could be is my antivirus program. I use AVG now since I reformated 2 days ago..and every since then, I have a really slow startup..I don't know if that is the reason..Does anybody have any suggestions, on how to speed my startup? I use to be able to be on my desktop screen in like 35-40 seconds at most. And now it is way over a minute. Any help would be gr8.

DNS Client service slow initialization if hosts file large

A whole bunch of years ago I can remember trying some ad blocker that filled the hosts file up, and often slowed things down.

My hosts file has one added entry for my wifi access point;

192.168.0.10 RT-AC87U

The edge-chromium browser uses the AdGuard extension, from the Microsoft store... which doesn't inject a single thing into the hosts file. Lots of ad blockers out there what work well without filling up your hosts file.
