Host file has strange characters. I can't add a host entry?

I was trying to enter a new host file on one of our remote user’s laptop and when I went to open the file it showed a bunch of Chinese symbols and wouldn’t let me do anything with it? I tried deleting it and then tried to build a new host file from scratch and the same thing happened??? I’ve never seen this before. Any suggestions?

    :)

Printer sharing Windows 10 and Windows XP

I have a similar problem. I have a virtual XP machine running under Hyper-V, originally on a Windows 8.1 machine. File and printer sharing with the host machine all worked fine. After upgrading to Windows 10, file sharing with the host is still working,
but I can't add any printers in the virtual XP machine. I get the same "credentials supplied were insufficient" message when I use the 'Add printer' wizard. A workaround for this would be much appreciated.

Edge- Too many Ads and Pop Ups

You could modify the local hosts file. By putting in all the addresses all the ad servers in the world or get a modified hosts file from How To: Update the HOSTS file in Windows 8 (Windows 10/8). If you do not understand the use of the local host file this
site has a lot of readmes explaining it. I do not trust bats or exe that sites ask you to run on your computer. So this is the way I installed the new host file. I extracted the zip file. I looked at it to make sure that it was what it is suppose to be then
I select it and right click and copied it. I located the hosts file. It is at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. I rename hosts file Hosts.user. then right click on a blank place pasted the new hosts file into the above folder. Opened edge and Msn is my
home page and where all the ads where at before are just blank places and the site loaded very fast. I had tried to turn them off by setting Personalized ads in this browser to off but they just came back on. enjoy add free browsing until they use new ad server
