Windows 10: Hot and crashes while idle

Hi,

I have an Asus Laptop wich is runnig hot while idle untill it crashes and I return to a black screen and have to hold the power untill it restarts.

I have tried a lot of things, but can not seem to find what is causing it. I have used driver verification, but it got stuck in a loop and I had to get it out with safe mode. I found a DCOM 1084 windows.internal.security.authentication.web.tokenbrokerinternal error, but could not find if that was the issue or not.

I am running the latest build with the latest updates. All drivers have the latest updates. The system is fine and cool while in use. No virusscan or defrag tasks running. As soon as I leave it idle the problem starts. Have tested a few minutes to see what happens when idle, but nothing so far. No processes that step up ad use resources. Might take a bit longer.

A thing I suspect now: I am running a high performance mode. Maybe, when I am idle the fans rest, while the processor is still running max? Is this a thing ?

Hope anyone has an idea.

When playing games the hot keys are active

I suggest you to follow the steps below to disable Hot Keys and check if that helps.

  Right click anywhere on your desktop screen and select Graphics Options.

  Navigate to Hot Keys and then click on Disable.

  Check if issue persists.

all games crash!

I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

 

My Q6600 @ 3.2GHz (B3) idles too hot.

Have to remember that B3 stepping runs extremely hot. My buddies B3 is at 2.7ghz has one of this big xigmatek coolers on it and has fans galore but he still gets temps in the high 30's low 40's at idle.
