Windows 10: Hot keys for brightness don't work.

I'm using windows 11 pro 24H2 on Dell 5520. Hot keys for brightness don't work. Brightness bar appears on screen upon pressing Function keys, but brightness doesn't increase or decrease.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to disable Hot Keys and check if that helps.

Why are my brightness keys not working anymore?

Alright, thanks for checking that monitor issue. After you scanned again, did the monitor get detected as a real monitor brand name, or is it still listed as "generic pnp monitor"?

While I wait, here's another common observation. Many companies like HP will build a program that runs in the background to "listen" for incoming hot key requests like brightness and other Fn keys. This isn't universal, and sometimes it's handled by the
BIOS without a background program running. But, can you press Ctrl-Shift-Escape, go to the Startup tab, and see if there is any "hot key" or "multimedia key" program listed (probably with an HP brand name) that shows as disabled for any reason?

Finally, I'd like to have you test if the Windows built-in brightness control slider still functions. The reason I ask is because this will narrow it down to being just a problem with the hot keys, or if it is actually not able to set brightness by any
means at all. To try it with the Windows built-in slider, right-click the desktop and choose Display Options, then try the brightness slider knob. If that works, we know it's narrowed down to the hot keys. If it doesn't work there though, we know it's something
with the driver.

To adjust the brightness, see the steps below:

• Go back to Power Options, and tick on the High performance.
• See if you can adjust the brightness.

If this not work, we highly suggest that you create an Administrator account, and re-do the steps above.
