How big can you set the paging file and other things

I just reset my laptop so now I have a lot of space. I haven't done this before and I need more than 1-4 gigs of ram at a time for games work etc.. I want to know how big you can set the paging file since I can't find anything on it. I have an external hard drive and have about 30 gigabytes give or take of space on my main hard drive. Even if I don't need ram I still need to figure out how to get more memory for this laptop so if ram isn't my problem please let me know. I have quite a few tabs of opera running and 89% of my memory is used up most of the time as I see from task manager. My cpu usage usually goes from less than 20 to 100 depending on how fast I'm doing something and there's 0% for both disk and network. If you need anymore info I'll let you know

    :)

    Page File

Set minimum and maximum to a constant number as suggested by others, that will help reduce fragmentation on the drive coz of different page file sizing.

Low performance after setting the paging file

I don't necessarily subscribe to the seperate drive/partition thing. But I do always make a set sized page file. So I use Custom and set the Initial Size and Maximum Size the same(In my case 4096)That way it's not going to be growing and shrinking as "Windows sees fit" but enough for anything it may need it for.

Whenever I do mess with Page Files I always "delete" the old one by setting it to None, then rebooting, then make any changes so it makes a "fresh one"

    Paging File

Go to the page file settings and select custom size. Make the initial size the same as the maximum size. Then your page file will never become fragmented in the first place.
