  1. How can I actually tell if a license is oem or retail

OK, I asked a similar question already.Basically, according to cmd's slmgr command, my windows key is on the retail channel. However we bought the computer a while ago, a year or so after windows 10 first released.I'm really confused, since it's telling me it's a retail copy, and it's digitally linked to my account, but from the sources I read, it should instead say oem instead. Can this happen, if say, windows has been freshly installed via USB multiple timesall the same versionOr can it actually mean that at some point, the key was linked to my account?

    :)

Windows 10 Pro Retail or OEM or Volume License

    Hi Raju,

This is an interesting topic. If the last three letters of your Product ID ends with
OEM, then your license was issued by manufacturer. These type of licenses cannot be transferred to another computer because it is tied up with the device itself. Otherwise, if it doesn't end with OEM, your copy of Windows is from a retail merchant.
These licenses can be transferred to another computer. Unless your device was issued by your company, or from an organization, then it could have been activated under Volume licensing.

To be sure, check the type of license you that you have by following these steps:

    • Open Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type slmgr -dli and press Enter.
    • It will show you a pop up box telling you what type of license you are using.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

  3. Is my license retail or OEM

My license is actually retail, so I haven't tested it personally... but from what I understand: If your original license was for Windows 7 or 8 and you then did the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it came out. Then (so I'm told) ALL systems that have done that upgrade will SHOW as retail when asked in the command prompt/powershell.

HOWEVER, if they were OEM originally then they are legally still OEM licenses that can't be transferred and they will react accordingly if you try, even though it told you it was retail.

Remove OEM license and replace by Retail license

I want to remove OEM license and replace by retail license. The reason is I'm a vendor who sells `Computer Desktop` and `Laptop` to customer. Those Computer Desktops and Laptops have OEM license but my customer just want retail license only for financial reason. So I need to remove OEM license then replace new retail license to Those devices. I tried to change license in menu "Change Product Key" but after changed I tried to check license by using "ShowKeyPlus" app in Microsoft store. it still show me OEM license and have no Retail license which I've just entered it.

How can I remove OEM license and replace by Retail license in Windows 11?
