Windows 10: How can I add HEIC metadata tags, subject, etc. to my HEIC photos in Windows? I used these...

I use tags, comments, subject, author, and ratings to organize by photos 20K, most of which are from my iPhone. With the HEIC file type which I would prefer to use I cannot add "tags", "subject", or "author" ... so, my whole organization scheme fails. I cannot find any way to add these descriptions to the HEIC metadata. 1 is there a way to add these ? 2 if not, is there a plan to add these metadata fields? or, 3 is there a suggested workaround/ alternative? I'm still using Windows 10 - would Window 11 fix this? Thanks.

Writing HEIC files / HEIC related metadata

Hello,

I'm trying to change meta data of the HEIC images. Unfortunately, it seems that the current HEIC plugin / file support doesn't allow writing HEIC files or the related meta data. I can open the images and see them OK however. For example, I cannot add an description to a photo, or I cannot tag a HEIC image as an favorite in the photos app, there's no tags, subject or any other description fields, no copyright and I cannot add new meta data fields (for example the standard fields to be used in the press images).

- So is there some way to add HEIC writing support to the Windows 11? Preferably at the "native level", so that all the applications could take advantage of it. Either paid or free, goes.

- If not, is there a plan to add a full HEIC support to the Windows 11? I guess it would make sense, as these days it's the "standard" in iPhone and overall quite advanced, for example compared to ages old JPG.

- Anything else particular, I should be aware of, in terms of HEIC support? (besides the copyright / IP right issues, I assume is one of the root causes of the limited support)

Windows HEIC (Apple photos) Horrible File Management

I'm not opening HEIC files, I'm viewing the folder in Windows File Explorer.

For example I have 1,000 HEIC files in a folder and I'm doing a list view with a few tag columns like "Date Taken".

When scrolling the folder it stalls and takes forever. If I rename some files it takes minutes to display.

JPG or PNG files view pretty quickly.
