Windows 10: How can I be sure that an OEM key was correctly used.

I've recently bought a computer from a shop nearby, I asked for them to install an original and legal copy of windows I did not specify that it needed to be retail, but I assumed it. I've precisely made the specs, and they made a custom build for me.But I've noticed that the Windows 11 Pro sticker is from an OEM version. I'm not here to start a debate of whether using an OEM key in a retail copy is legal or not, in my opinion it is not.So, is there any way to be sure that the shop that I bought from is indeed an official Microsoft Original Equipment Manufacturer, so that they could legally u

"Flavors" of Windows licenses

Windows can be a little "odd" about license keys. There are at least 4 categories:

• Retail
• OEM
• Volume (electronic download)
• Corporate (no key needed)

For guaranteed success, the license key and media should be in the same category. If you have retail media, you may not be able to install it using an OEM or Volume license key, even though the key is valid for that version of Windows. *Wtf :wtf: Apparently, this is part of Microsoft's anti-piracy scheme (i.e., all customers are guilty until proven innocent).

 

OEM key able to be used on VM?

Accidentally used my OEM key on my laptop on my virtual machine hosted on the same laptop. For some reason it accepted my OEM key and activated the virtual machine as well. I've uninstalled/deactivated the virtual machine like it says here but for some reason it keeps the "activated with digital license" thing.

Are OEM keys supposed to be able to be activated in virtual machines? Does it just look at the virtual machine hardware and think it's the same as my host laptop? I'm not sure if I've screwed something up or not, since it doesn't seem like you're able to remove the digital license, even by reinstalling windows. I have already re-entered the product key on my host laptop, though I'm not sure if that will do much.

slmgr /dli says the correct oem key for my host laptop but says "Partial Product Key 3V66T" for the VM.

 

Windows 7 OEM key

Perhaps the OEM key has been used a few times already and cannot be used again.
I have changed motherboards in laptops and the OEM key worked, without having to call Microsoft.
