Change boot drive from HD to SSD - drive name/letters issue

The SSD has a Recovery partition on the first partition. MS has changed the partitions order many years ago. This suggest that the computer is quite old or you migrate the SSD from an older computer. Lets rebuild the EFI partition of the SSD drive. Boot from the HDD Open a CMD window as administrator and type: diskpart list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the SSD drive number - (1?)) select disk n (replace n by the SSD drive number obtained with list disk- (1?)) list part (it will list all partitions. Identify the EFI partition number - (3?)) select part m (replace m by the EFI partition number - (3?)) format fs=fat32 quick label=EFI assign letter=w exit bcdboot E:\Windows /s W: /f UEFI diskpart select vol W remove letter=W exit exit Shut down, detach the HDD (SATA or power cable) enter BIOS and make sure the SSD boot manager is select as primary boot. If it boots to the SSD, shut down and attach the HDD. Boot from the SSD and clean the HDD (delete all partitions). To clean the HDD you can use Disk Manager or use diskpart. Open a CMD window as administrator and type: diskpart list disk (it will list all drives. Identify the HDD drive number (0?)) select disk n (replace n by the HDD drive number obtained with list disk (0?)) clean create part primary select part 1 format fs=ntfs quick assign letter=D exit (to exit diskpart)

Change boot drive using EasyBCD failed

You haven't detach the HDD during installation on the SSD so the SSD boot manager is on the HDD. Also the Windows Recovery partition is on the HDD You have to create a EFI partition on drive 1 to install the boot manager Boot from the SSD Open a CMD window as administrator and type: reagentc /disable diskpart list disk (identify the SSD drive number - I think it should be 1) select disk n (replace n with the drive number from list disk) list part (identify the partition number of C: - It should be 2) select part m (replace m with the partition number from list part) shrink desired=100 create part EFI format quick FS=fat32 label=EFI assign letter=W exit bcdboot C:\Windows /s W: /f UEFI diskpart select vol W remove letter=W exit exit Your drive 0 (HDD) is a big mess. After copying all your data to the SSD I suggest you clean the drive (delete all partitions and then create a new partition for data only).

How can I change the identified boot drive?

Can't boot Windows 10, UEFI bootloader GPT partitioned system drive. Tried bootrec (Total identified Windows installations: 0)

Hi, I am trying to help a friend repair her son's computer so I don't have a lot of context as to what happened prior to this issue, but I will try to be as comprehensive as I can in describing what steps I've taken so far.

    Initial Observations

This is a Windows 10 PC, with a 2 TB disk. It is UEFI enabled and GPT partitioned. Computer boots up and immediately begins
Preparing Automatic Repair. The computer reboots without going to the Choose an option menu and boot-loops through this sequence.

    Method 1

    • F11 to force boot options menu
    • Boot into local disk recovery partition
    • Launch cmd prompt in recovery environment
    • Commands issued:
      • bootrec /fixboot
        • The operation completed successfully.
      • bootrec /rebuildbcd
        • OUTPUT: Total identified Windows installations: 0

    Method 2

    • Created recovery drive on my own Windows 10 PC
    • Booted problem PC with the recovery drive
    • Attempted startup repair multiple times (no luck)
    • Attempted bootrec commands again (no luck)

    Method 3

    I attempted the solution suggested
    HERE
. At step 5, I got this error:

    Path not found - C:\boot

So I changed the operations for steps 5 & 6 to target the system recovery volume on the disk:
