How can I change the location setting when Windows says that I'm "part of an organization"?

I would like to change my location settings, but the slider is greyed out and I am unable to turn it on because Windows thinks that I am "part of an organization" and that this "organization" has a made it so that it is preventing me from turning on location services. I am not part of any public organization or even a Microsoft Family Group so I am very confused on why this doesn't work. Thank you for any advice :

    :)

  2. Location - managed by your organization

Hi aliskander, check the registry settings at the following link.

    • Group policy object (GPO): HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection

    • Local policy preference: HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\DataCollection

    At the first registry location I observed a default or no setting and the following at the second location;

As far as I know, I have all my privacy settings configured for maximum privacy and sharing as little as possible. This 'MaxTelemetryAllowed' setting of 1 makes me wonder.
OK, 1=basic (required) and 3=full diagnostic data. I just tested these settings by changing the feedback GUI settings from basic to full. *Smile

    UPDATE:

    See post #14 here.

In the third paragraph a solution is posted when this user had the same condition as you've presented.

    Location setting

    Hi,

This issue could occur due to incorrect location settings or it would depend on your IP address. We suggest you to check the location settings of your PC, and check if it helps. Here are the steps:

    • Click the Start button, and select Settings.
    • Go to Privacy, and choose Location.
    • Make sure that the Location service is On.

If issue persists, then it has something to do with your IP address. It’s because the location detected depends on the location set on your IP address.

Let us know how it goes.

  4. How can I change the location setting when Windows says that I'm "part of an organization"?

    Location Settings

I would like to change my Location settings (in Settings/Location) but the "Change button" is greyed ouy and says: "Location for this device is off". Also, marked in red, I see "*Some of these settings are hidden or managed by your organization"
I use Windows 10 Home Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.572)
My question is : why are these settings hidden and as I am using an standalone (NOT dependent af any organization) why doe it says so?
Can I do something about that to remedy this situation?
    Thanks in advance, gabriël
