  1. How can I change the owner of C:\Program Files from Trusted Installer to myself when access...

I have entered the advanced security settings for Program Files in order to change the ownership from Trusted Installer to my account. My account has administrator rights and is the only user on my computer. When I click on edit, I am not able to change any permissions for any of the group or user names. When I click into advanced I am able to put my Microsoft account as owner. After hitting applied it shows a pop up that states: "Unable to set new owner on Program Files. Access is denied. "System InformationOS Name Microsoft Windows 10 HomeVersion 10.0.19044 Build 19044Other OS Description N

  2. Denied access to a file despite being listed as the owner

I tried to reinstall Origin, and this particular program, and it seems some others on the computer do not allow access at all, either to run or delete. It says access is denied or that permission will be needed. I go into the advanced settings to change
the owner (as elswhere the troubleshooters suggested) and I see that Administrators is already listed as the owner. It's as though the administrator does not even have access to the file. This appears to apply to the entire folder. How can I change the
permission to the file(s) so I can delete/reinstall?

  3. Trusted Installer

    Hi Diane ,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I see that you are facing issues when you are trying to delete files.

Trusted installer's main function is to enable installation, removal and modification of Windows Updates and optional system components.

For this issue, I suggest that you try to change the ownership of the file that you are not able to delete and check if the issue persist.

Please login to administrator account before performing the below steps.

Follow the steps mentioned below to change the ownership of the file or folder:

    • Press and hold the folder that you want to take ownership of, then tap
      Properties
. (If you are using a mouse, right-click the folder, and then click
      Properties.)
    • Tap or click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click
Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click
      Check Names.
    • Note: the account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.
    • Click OK.
    • If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the
Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
    • Click OK.
After trying all the above steps I would suggest you to try deleting the specific file which you weren’t able to delete.

Reply us if you have further queries we will be glad to assist you.

How can I change the owner of C:\Program Files from Trusted Installer to myself when access...

"Access is denied" - "Unable to display current owner" C:\

    Hi,

I created a problem for myself. I have changed the security settings to access the c:\ drive. I meant to change this for additional users, but changed it for all users.

Now I get this error notification: "Access is denied" - "Unable to display current owner"

    How can I fix this.

I had contact with the helpdesk, suggestion was to do a clean install. But my pc is not working with me.
