Windows 10: How can I check my data drive for errors?

I'm sorry, this is a silly question, and I used to know the answer to this.

I've got two hard drives on my PC.

Drive C:\ - is a NVMe drive with my system and many of my apps on

Drive D:\ - This is my storage drive. I've relocated all of my personal Windows user folders to my D:\ Drive. In otherwords, Music, Documents, Pictures, Downloads and Videos. Not Desktop.

When I'm saving pictures from Google Chrome, when the Save as Window pops up, it's been freezing for a few seconds, but not completely crashing. I seem to notice it being consistently set on either Pictures, Documents or Downloads, as I don't save to Desktop too often. I'm thinking either two things:
My D:\ Drive is failing (I doubt it actually)
My D:\ Drive just needs to be checked for errors. I'm guessing that's the case.

That said, how can I check Drive D:\ for errors?

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. CD drive error

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.
