    How can I configure the bitlocker preboot environment to accept special characters


    Hello,My company required me to change my bitlocker password. So I selected a password according to standard password guidelines including special characters.Unfortunately the bitlocker preboot environment is configured with some standard US? keyboard layout that does not support the special characters I included in the password.What is the recommended way to enter the required special characters in the bitlocker preboot environment.Best regardsMichael

    Start gpedit.msc as an administrator, then:

    Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → BitLocker Drive Encryption → Operating System Drives → Allow enhanced PINs for startup

    "This policy setting allows you to configure whether or not enhanced startup PINs are used with BitLocker.

    Enhanced startup PINs permit the use of characters including uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols, numbers, and spaces. This policy setting is applied when you turn on BitLocker.

    If you enable this policy setting, all new BitLocker startup PINs set will be enhanced PINs.

    Note: Not all computers may support enhanced PINs in the pre-boot environment. It is strongly recommended that users perform a system check during BitLocker setup.

    If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, enhanced PINs will not be used."

    Otherwise it may be difficult to type special characters for startup if not impossible.

    Bitlocker - Pre Boot Password - alpha, numeric, special characters

    I am only able to setup Bitlocker to use a numeric PIN for pre boot authentication.

    How can I setup Bitlocker to require a password using alpha, numeric, special characters for pre boot authentication?

    In a professional environment, requiring and allowing makes more sense...

    It is not possible to configure in the bitlocker menu (in step 10 of the tutorial) "Configure TPM startup PIN", "Configure TPM startup key" at the same time, so Microsoft has put "Configure TPM startup key and PIN" . *Biggrin

    "Do not allow TPM" is not to disable the tpm, but not to use the tpm to unlock the hdd/ssd automatically.
