Windows 10: How can I connect my Shure 565SD Microphone to my Windows 11 PC?

I have a USB-C to XLR cable but when I connect my microphone it does not register. I can confirm that the Shure 565SC does not require Phantom Power so it should be able to connect directly; or so I thought. I did see an additional $200 option for an external pre-amp through Sweetwater but come on... is there no workaround for poor musicians who already spent a bundle on a nice microphone?

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

• What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)
  
• When you say that “the box is grey and unresponsive”, where you are seeing this option?
  
• Are you able to connect the microphone to the PC? (Does it show in Device Manager)

Meanwhile we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to setup the microphone.

Steps to set up a microphone: Before you set up Speech Recognition, make sure you've plugged the microphone into your PC so the following steps work.

1. Press Windows + Q or click on the Windows Search.
   
2. Enter Set up a microphone in the search box, and then tap or click
   Set up a microphone.
   
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
   
4. Once you are able to setup the microphone and then check if it’s working.

External Microphone not recognised

If your external microphone is not being recognized by your laptop, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get your external microphone working on your MSI Katana GF66 laptop running Windows 11:

1. Check Connections:
   
   • Ensure that the microphone is properly connected to your laptop using both the USB power cable and the 3.5mm audio cable.
     
   • Try different USB and audio ports to rule out any issues with specific ports.
     
2. Driver Installation:
   
   • Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed for the external microphone. Sometimes, devices require specific drivers to function properly. You can typically find these drivers on the manufacturer's website.
     
3. Device Manager:
   
   • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
     
   • Look for any entries related to your external microphone. It should appear under "Audio inputs and outputs."
     
   • If you see the microphone listed, make sure it's enabled and up to date. You can right-click on it and choose "Enable" or "Update driver."
     
4. Sound Settings:
