Windows 10: How can I delete a Norton Backup file located on my C drive

I have administrator rights and my hard drive is split into two; C drive for programmes, Windows etc and D drive for data files.Norton have changed the backup feature of Norton 360 and are trying to promote use of cloud backup instead of backup to an external drive. They have also changed to process to set up a new backup run.Recently I was setting up a new backup to my external drive but found that Norton selected my C drive and started the run automatically and was difficult to stop resulting in the backup file using nearly all of my spare capacity.When I attempted to delete this backup

Remove backup set Norton 360 on C drive, Win10

With 104,000 files in a Norton Backup on the C drive it will take about 2 months to delete it using Norton's delete tool. Their customer "support" offers no alternative. Windows 10 is in use. Any suggestions? Thanks.

 

I inadvertently put a norton backup file on the D drive and can't delete it

Hi ,

Please try following:

Open CMD as an Administrator and execute following command:

rd + path to folder were the Norton antivirus backup file is located.

Example:

rd "C:\New folder"

Inform me about the result.

I went to CMD and wrote C: users\Garry >rd.D:\N360 backup

and was still denied access. I posted that as a reply but have heard nothing since. What is the next step?

Norton Backup Drive

Hi HowardChiu,

Sorry for the trouble. If you just want the Norton Backup drive to be removed from My Computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open your Norton Security program and click on Settings.

2. Go to Backup Settings in the settings menu

3. Under Backup Settings you will find the Norton Backup Drive.

4. Click on the Slider to Turn it Off.

5. Apply the settings and close the settings window.

This will remove the drive. Let me know if it helps.
