Windows 10: How can I delete Windows Backup/SPPMetadataCache files

Hi, I built my PC back in 2014 and upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 and I'm currently on Windows 10.

About 3 months ago, I used the option in Windows 10 to refresh my PC. All is fine but after using Wiztree I noticed that Windows has remembered every System Image Backup I have ever made going way back to 29 April 2014 .

I don't seem to be able to delete these old records.

Only the last couple of backups still exist as I format my backup drive periodically and start afresh.

How can I delete these old files and is it safe to delete them? (See attachment for details from Wiztree)

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

 

How do I delete registry files?

type in regedit in the search box and press enter. Then from here on, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNLESS U KNOW WHAT UR DOING!! Go to Hkey_Local_Machine > Software > Then a list of program registry keys will pop up, delete anything that is uninstalled. Make sure u backup the keys unless something goes wrong. To backup, you do: Select a group of keys on the left pane > Right click > Export > name it "whatever.reg" > save it. To import the backup, click the reg file and click "merge"

Backup files will not be affected if the Windows 10 upgrade was installed on the hard drive intended for the operating system. If a clean install was performed where the backup files was stored, then all files will be deleted.



For Windows 10 upgrade, we can manually recover the files by searching for Windows.old. Here are the steps:

• Open File Explorer.
• Go to Local Disk (C.
• Select Windows.old.
• Select User then your Username.
