    How can I find out what TLS protocols Edge browser is defaulting to?


    My wife goes to "https://silversneakers.com" and my router blocks with Threat Prevention and says "ET POLICY TLSv1.0 Used in Session". This is on her Surface Pro 9 tablet running latest Windows 11 version and Edge version. How can I tell Edge or Windows or Local Policy or whatever is telling it to try to negotiate TLSv1.0 to stop doing that? I used inetcpl.cpl to say to not use 1.0 and 1.1 and do use 1.2 and 1.3. But I don't know how Edge is trying 1.0. Any hints?

    Can't change default browser for protocols.

    So I eventually got it to work. None of the steps listed here worked. I tried again and again. The ability to change the protocol are either grayed out or don't work.

    I finally went through all my file extension settings (by creating a dummy .htm and .html file), then setting the default browser for those (one was set to Chrome, one was set to Edge) to be the same (Firefox), and THEN I was able to set the https:// protocol
    to use Firefox and not Edge.

    I have no idea why this worked, and I am frustrated it took so many steps and so many non-intuitive tasks and what may have just been fortuitous choices.

    Default Browser Keeps Changing to Edge

    There are three other ways to set your default program. In Default apps, navigate the page to find the following:

    • Choose default apps by file type
    • Choose default apps by protocol
    • Set defaults by app

    To manually change your default browser, follow these steps:

    • Set your preferred default browser to skip Choose default apps by file type. Click
      Choose default apps by protocol then look for HTTP and HTTPS. Change them to your preferred browser.
    • After that, click Set defaults by app and wait for the new windows to load. Search your preferred browser and click it. Select
      Set this program as default and press OK.
    • Close all your browsers and check if it still asks you to set your browser.

    Let us know how it goes after doing the troubleshooting steps.
