Windows 10: How can I fix my computer not registering my plug-in speakers?

Hi. So a few days ago one of my computers which is plugged into a stereo set stopped registering the stereo set and started to play sound from its own built-in speakers. The aux cord is not the problem, I don't think. I have switch aux cords and it didn't work. The speakers themselves are alright. They are working fine with my tablet and everything is plugged in. And I do have the latest version of Windows 10 on the computer in question and every driver is up to date. I even tried to install a new sound driver and it did not work. Is there any way I could fix this issue at all?Note: I am not

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in

I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

The Red X normally indicates that the sound is muted.

Some other suggestions . . .

> Open the Settings, click System, select Sound, and run the Trouble-Shooter.
> Check that the speaker jack is correctly plugged into the correct socket of the computer.
> Check that the speakers are turned on and turned up.

Speaker wire Plugging In or Moving

Yep, I fix computers for folks and see the same thing. Also just touching the metal part of a plug can cause noise, probably static electricity in ones body. Touching the tip of the plug to the computer case can also make noise. A lot depends on the speakers having power and being turned on even though not plugged into a speaker port.
