Windows 10: How can I fix my taskbar background being stuck on black even in light mode?

My taskbar background is stuck on black even when in light mode. I tried everything that I could find but I wasn't able to find anyone with the same problem. Its almost like its bugged? When I change the theme to light everything changes correctly, the icons become black as they are supposed to but the background of the taskbar stays black too and the icons and text become black on black. It is also impossible to change the color of the taskbar to anything and when I try it flashes as if its trying to display the right color but stays black anyways. Any advice on what I could do? I cant seem t

My taskbar seems to be stuck on dark mode, I can change to dark and I get the task bar settings back (I get white text and icons), but when I change both options (windows mode and app mode) to light, the checkbox for accent colour on task is greyed out. My taskbar shows dark text and icons in light mode whether I have a dark or light background image

Duh! Figured out the default should in fact be dark mode. I thought it was light by default, but it's the other way around. No wonder I couldn't tick the box to apply accent colour to taskbar! It's not really obvious in the settings. Has the transparency setting changed? It's been a while since I tinkered around with my colours and settings. I seem to remember there being a slider to set the level of transparency for the taskbar, but this doesn't seem to be available anymore.

In the meantime, we suggest that you try to check if the "Show Windows Background" option is turned on. Follow the steps below:

• Turn on Show Windows Background and check if it works.

background colour changed from white to black

Are you running the 1903 update of Windows?

This has a dark mode which turns everything black (& there’s now a light mode too which is the opposite), there’s an option for custom where you can have the background light but the taskbar dark.

This can be found under Settings > Personalization > Colors, you can choose dark, light or custom - I believe you’ll prefer custom & set the background to light while taskbar etc is dark.
