Windows 10: How can I fix Remote Desktop failure using Microsoft Personal Account on both machines?

I have two Windows 11 PCs on the same LAN connected by Gigabit Ethernet to the same Layer 2 switch. Both have a Microsoft personal account and a local Administrator account. When attempting login using the Microsoft account, from System 1 to System 2, the It say the password didn't work. The Administrator account works, so there isn't a firewall port issue, and Remote Desktop is enabled. I have tried using both the full Microsoft account ID, and based on another message board on this topic, using the folder name under C:\users.

Remote Desktop fails connecting if you haven't logged into device in-person since boot.

Remote Desktop fails with the error:

We couldn't connect to the remote PC.

This might be due to an expired password. If this keeps happening, contact your network administrator for assistance.

Error code: 0x207

Only when you try to RDP without first logging into the specified domain account in person since device boot.

Password is not expired and works correctly both in person, and for RDP after logging into the machine in person.

I can log into a local account without issue.

Example:

Boot machine

RDP as domain/

-> Failure

RDP as LocalUser

-> Success

RDP as domain/

-> Failure

Login in-person as domain/

-> Success

RDP as domain/

-> Success

Restart Machine

RDP as domain/

-> Failure

This has been this machine's behavior for months.

1. Are you using the Microsoft remote desktop app?
   

If you are using the Microsoft remote desktop app downloaded from
Microsoft store then, I suggest you to follow the steps to
fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.



If the issue still persists with the Microsoft remote desktop app, then you can contact the support team by going to the

link and scrolling down to the bottom and clicking on
Microsoft remote desktop support under the Publisher info.



However, if you are using the Remote desktop connection, which comes pre-installed with Windows 10, then I suggest you to please post your question in the
TechNet forum.

Remote Desktop not working for my Windows/10 machine

I restored a computer to original Windows/10, set it to allow remote access, and still can't access it using Remote Desktop from another machine.

They are both network connected to the same wireless router.

I'm logged into the same Microsoft account on both.

I'm trying to access it using either computername or IP address - neither works.

I CAN successfully run TRACERT using either computername or IP address and both work.

Windows Firewall does not list an application named "Remote Desktop" (still doesn't connect even if I turn the firewall off).

Thoughts? Suggestions?
