  1. How can I get a network drive on an end users device to disable indexing when it won't?

I have an issue with an end device that won't allow me to disable indexing for the files on a drive. It gives me an error and says to ignore or ignore all.I go into properties of the drive and uncheck indexing, after scanning all the files it still doesn't disable it for everything. I made sure to include the sub folders.I've tried on other computers with the same account that has access to the drive and works just fine. Everything it automatically disabled for indexing anyways for everyone else.I want indexing off because the search quires in the network drive on the file explorer will not lo

Windows 10 indexing selects wrong drive

I used a bootable CD containing
    EaseUS
disk copier to clone the Win8.1 drive to a new HDD.

At your suggestion I tried changing the drive letter of the 8.1 disk from D: to I:. This did not fix the problem. When I select the C: drive to index it jumps to the I: drive and does not index any of the C: drive.

Again, I went into Device Manager and disabled to 2nd disk (the original 8.1) and that corrected the problem.

    Hello Jon Hof,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I would suggest you in Rebuilding Windows 10 Indexing Options by following the steps mentioned below:

    • Open Indexing Options from
      Control panel.
    • Click on Modify and put a check mark on the required network drive and press
      OK.
    • Click on Advanced, select
File types and select Index Properties and File contents. Click on
      OK.

    Hope it helps.

  4. How can I get a network drive on an end users device to disable indexing when it won't?

Indexing Network Drives is not working / Trying to Add Network Drive to Indexing option is not there

    Hello,

I am running into an issue with a few of our windows 10 computers. When they are trying to search a network drive, the search take a very long time (some times does not even search) to search and even if it does search, it is not getting everything I need.
I can be in the directory of where the file is and search for it and it will take 10-15 minutes before it shows me the result. It will take twice as long if I enable content searching (which I understand takes longer but 20-30 minutes it a very long time).

    • I have tried reindexing. This however only does the C drive and not the network drives. When I want to add the network drives, I am not getting an option to add them. I am not even able to select the computer in Network.
    • I have tried running a system file repair in cmd. Comes back with no issues.
    • I have tried running a system health restore in cmd. Everything is okay there.
    • I have reset the WinCatalog through cmd. Still having issues.
    • I right clicked on the network drive and made sure that "Allow this drive to be index" was check. I even unchecked it and recheck it so it will apply to everything.
    • I right clicked on the network drive and check "Allow Available Offline" and let that go through its process.
    • I stopped the Windows Search service, started it, made sure that it was set to auto and even restarted it. Still having the issue

I have tried these steps at least twice now and after each step, I would reboot the computer.

Is there anything else that I can do to get the search in network drive function to work properly again. Or is there a way that I can add the network drives to the indexing. I have tried third party programs that will search for files but the main thing
we need is the content search. I know content search takes awhile to run but on windows 7 computers, it only takes like 3 minutes to search and find the file with the content in it.
