Windows 10: How can I get Search to find my application?

Discus and support How can I get Search to find my application? in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; Supposedly the Search functionality searches the directory tree C:\Users...     How can I get Search to find my application?


    Supposedly the Search functionality searches the directory tree C:\Users... Well I created a subfolder in that tree (C:\Users\myname\My Start Menu) and in that subfolder I have a shortcut to an .exe. But Search can't find the shortcut (or the .exe). I really don't want to rebuild the index just for this one file (especially since I'm not convinced that would help). So I'm asking, is there somewhere else I can put my shortcut so that Search will find it? Thanks.

    How can I get my PC to find my new phone?


    Try this:



    Go to Start > Settings

    Go to the 'Connections' tab at the bottom

    Open USB to PC

    Uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality" checkbox

    Click "ok" in the top right corner.



    Try connecting again and see if that does the trick.

    How can I get Search to find my application?

    For your user you can put the shortcut here:

    C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

    or for all users:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    AppData and ProgramData are both hidden folders so you need to tick the "hidden items" box in the view tab of file explorer to see them.
