How can I keep documents or photos on BOTH my PC AND OneDrive?

I am a neophyte Windows 11 PC user, and I did not realize that when folders and files are "synced" to OneDrive they are removed from my local machine. This has horrified me, in part because the word "sync" does not mean "upload and delete"; it means "arrange to indicate COEXISTENCE."Among other things, I constantly need to use AgentRansack to search for a string of words CONTAINED INSIDE my documents. Imagine my surprise when I performed my first search on what was listed in the hierarchy as my Documents folder on this PC drive C:\, and after a minuscule fraction of a second, the search came

  2. Save images/documents to my computer WITHOUT OneDrive being in the link

We suggest that you change the Auto Save location to This PC only in OneDrive settings. To do so, follow these steps:

If the OneDrive available in the taskbar, follow these steps:

    • On the right-hand corner at the bottom part beside time and date, click the up arrow to get the OneDrive icon and then right-click on it and then select
Settings. Like the image shown below:
    • Go to the Auto Save tab, Change the Documents
and Pictures location to This PC only and then make sure there no tick for
Photos and videos and also for Screenshots. Like what’s shown below:
    • Click OK to apply the changes.
    • Go back to step 1, go to the Account tab and click the
      Unlink OneDrive
      .
    • Follow the step 1 once again and select Exit.

If the OneDrive is no longer available in the taskbar, follow these steps:

    • Click the Start menu and type in OneDrive and then select the first result.
    • Sign in with your Microsoft account associated with your OneDrive and then follow the instructions to complete the login.

Let us know the result of your troubleshooting.

Documents/Pictures folders under 'This PC' refer to onedrive - not the local folders

Since the only folder that has incorrect file path is the Documents folder under This PC, we would suggest you do the same steps provided above. However, do it in your Documents folder under This PC. To do so, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Click This PC
    • Right-click on Documents
    • Click Properties
    • Click Location
    • Click Restore Default
    • Click Apply
    • Click OK
Also, we would like to inform you that "winhelponline.com" is not associated with Microsoft.

Let us know how it goes.

Help - OneDrive/Quick Access bypass not working

Sorry for the late reply. I missed your post somehow. *Sad

By default, the Documents from the Start list opens to Documents in This PC. The Documents folder in This PC is just a link of your "C:\Users\(user-name)\Documents" folder though.

Since it opens to your OneDrive location instead, it sounds like you have Documents set to save to OneDrive by default. You can use the same steps in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to set Documents to save to the default This PC only again.
