    How can I maintain shape integrity when merging or subtracting shapes in 3D Builder?


    When I create a tube in 3D Builder by subtracting one cylinder from another--or merge two tubes to create a "wye" type junction--the surface of the resulting shape is rough and lumpy, with many irregularly-shaped polygons instead of a smooth tube. The resulting 3D print is also lumpy rather than smooth.

    3D Builder Problems

    3D Builder does not seem to have an "about" button. There is no version information or obvious path to updates.

    - What is the current version and release date?

    - And where does one get it?

    - What is the version that comes with windows 10?

    The program has a problem with its subtract function. About half the time it finishes with an error. The fix it option is about 25% effective. Some of the repairs took longer than I was willing to wait which was well over an hour. In those cases, I tried
    building the model in a different way with marginal success.

    The subtraction utility usually requires me to make a merged or grouped shape placed into a standard shape like a cube. The results are generally disappointing with several artifacts left over, and of course, an error.

    - Is there any plan to upgrade this product?

    I haven't looked on-line, but there needs a few more standard shapes to start with. For example a multi-sided objects (5, 7, 10, 20) would be nice along with shapes with rounded corners.

    Microsoft 3D builder wont let me subtract

    Microsoft 3D Builder wont let me subtract one object from another

    Things I have tried

    • Selecting ONLY the object I want to be subtracted
    • Selecting the object I want to be subtracted AND the object I want it to be subtracted from
    • Using deselect and trying again
    • restarting the program
    • restarting the computer
    • using all of the different objects
    The button stays greyed out no matter what
