  1. How can I make the desktop icons from the windows store display correctly on my high dpi...

My laptop has a high dpi screen but the windows store icons don't scale correctly and there is no compatibility tab for them. games I get from elsewhere have this tab and display correctly. For instance the game Destiny 2 has a grey box around the artwork for the icon which has shrunk.

  2. Store app high-DPI override

I develop a desktop app called Expresii, which uses GPU for realtime processing. It is made into an Store app via Desktop App Converter. I recently added high-DPI support, but since higher DPI also increases the processing / memory needed for rendering,
some users would find the slower performance to be unbearable:

High DPI + Windows Store version = slow?

As a desktop app, we can always go back to using 'system enhanced' by system override if one prefer the state before high-DPI support. Store apps are not allowed to have the override.

From the Windows Central article: "The new DPI scaling settings are only available for traditional desktop (GDI-based) apps. Windows Store apps cannot be configured with these options because they're already optimized for high pixel density displays."

I'd like to ask if Microsoft can consider allowing such override, since there're also performance issue associated with high-DPI support.

    Thank you for your attention!

Display Settings: (High-DPI) some popular desktop apps don't display correctly on the new Surface Book - 512GB / Intel Core i7

    Hi Anil,

Thank you for taking your time to respond to my post.

However, none of your suggestions worked. I think there is a misunderstanding of what I explained on my post; The apps or programs are working fine, except the desktop display is not sized correctly (some text and some graphics) The problem here is
that because Surface Book uses “High-DPI display”. some desktop applications may appear somewhat blurry when you compare them with other applications on the screen. Alternately, display problems may exist such as truncated
text. This behavior occurs in such programs as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, Intuit-QuickBooks, etc.

In order to provide an optimal experience on high-DPI displays, desktop applications have to detect the DPI of the display that is being used and then scale their graphical elements, text, and screen layout appropriately.
Some applications do not implement this. Therefore, they may not look as sharp. Other applications may attempt to implement this, but may not implement it correctly such as my case, causing problems such as truncated text or incorrectly sized graphical elements.

I tried a few solutions like:

    In
Compatibility, Disabled Display Scaling On High DPI Settings.

    Lower Windows DPI setting

Changed the size of text, apps and other items etc.

But, no luck, the changes did not affect the items of apps desktop I pointed out on the pictures.

I know that there is a possibility that the problem may be with some of the apps software, but I do not think at this point the software developers are going to change to a “High-DPI" application or "DPI Aware software" any time soon.

In the meantime, if you have any alternate solution for this issue, I will welcome and appreciate all the help I can get.

Regarding High DPI Scaling Behavior In Windows 10 (p)

    Hi David,

High-DPI scaling improves the way Windows 10 handles automatic scaling per-monitor, which reduces the amount of blur or incorrect size for legacy apps. Here are the three scaling options:

    • System (Enhanced) will make the text and interface look crispier and elements will be sized correctly. This new option will override the way that a particular app handles the DPI scaling, which can result in interface elements and text
being blurry, and allows Windows 10 to take care of the scaling.
    • Application used to be referred as "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings." Using this option will force the app to run on a per-monitor DPI awareness.
    • When you enabled System, Windows 10 will stretch the interface, bitmap elements, and text will be blurry. This is the standard way Windows 10 handles scaling.

The new DPI scaling settings are only available for traditional desktop (GDI-based) apps. Windows Store apps cannot be configured with these options because they're already optimized for high pixel density displays.

Should you need additional information, do let us know.
