Windows 10: How can I move files back to my local drive permanently and remove them from OneDrive safely?

I want this to end.So, last night, I made the mistake to backup my files using OneDrive without thinking. I recognize that the mistake solely lies on my shoulders but this has still been terribly stressful as my files are now being deleted left and right, and if not for me recovering them from my local recycle bin, they would have been destroyed forever, and there are some important things in those files. So, I need help as to how I can permanently remove the files I stored in my OneDrive, i.e. I need to remove the backups safely without destroying years of work and love I placed to several pr

Recent shortcuts for apps show files on OneDrive instead of local hard drive

I was able to follow the steps and uncheck the "Use Office apps to sync" box but it didn't change Office's behavior. I opened and closed an Excel spreadsheet on my local hard drive. After that, when I right-clicked on the Excel icon pinned to the taskbar, a link to the OneDrive cloud file was in the list of recent files instead of a link to the file on my hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi Aston. If everything is signed out - browser, user, mail etc then yes it is safe. Unless you see a small green tick (synced). You say

Visiting family over the holiday I used an extra computer they had to get some work done and added my Microsoft account to the PC as a user to more easily access OneDrive files. I removed the account when I finished, but it left a local copy of my OneDrive files. Since the account has been removed is it safe to delete the local copy of OneDrive files without having to worry about them syncing back and deleting everything in the cloud?
