Windows 10: How can I recover a file that the system deleted itself while it was checking for an error...

A few weeks ago, I noticed that my D drive, an embedded external hard drive in my laptop, was opening slower despite having about 400GB of free space. The system reported an error on the drive, but virus scans found no threats. I began backing up the drive to another external hard drive, but the process became increasingly slow. Eventually, attempting to click on files resulted in a "not responding" message, and the window would close. I managed to copy everything except one file containing three Word documents, which caused an error and closed the window when accessed. I used the error-check

Thanks for your reply. I used my m8s program and it worked like a dream, recovered all the files and also deleted ones from yrs back, was amazed how well it did. Next step is i will use that Partition Table Doctor to recover the deleted partition. Thanks for the link *Toast :toast:

hey i need a shareware or free ware program to recover deleted data. i have downloaded a few but they require a serial or key to save the recovered data. i am working on a friends computer that they use for thier buisness and some how they have deleted all of thier quicken files. and the computer has crashed witha "load needed dlls for kernel" error. i think i have found a way to recover from the dll for kernel error with out an inplace upgrade but i still need to recover the data. and i cant use any torrent software due to our VOIP router. anyone know of any good software?>???? much appreciated *Big Grin *Toast :toast:
