Windows 10: How can I recover archive-ready files removed by OneDrive?

I recently got a new laptop, and I copy-pasted my desktop files using an external drive. On my new laptop, the files were corrupted and had a yellow/brown box icon in the bottom, left. I installed OneDrive and attempted to back up my desktop, but after which all of my files had been removed and don't show up in my recycle bin. Is there any way to recover these files? Are they archived somewhere?
