    How can I reformat a external hard drive while on a school computer.


    For some context my home computer had broke in a new update 22H2. So I had to rely on my school laptop for everything, including reformatting a external hard drive to fix my old computer. I had tired everything I could read but to avail. So this is my last option. The only reason I really trying to reformat this thing is because I had unknowingly formatted it for Xbox.

    Reformatting External Hard Drive

    I downloaded data from a computer with Windows 7 OS to and external hard drive. When I went to load this data on a new computer with Windows 10 OS I could no longer access the data. I tried to resolove with free repartitioning software, but the external
    hard drive cannot be accessed. Is there a way to either reformat the external hard drive, plug into the Windows 10 computer and make sure it is displaying then redownload the data to upload on the new computer or will I always face this compatibility problem?

    Hi Anthony - thank you for the response but you misunderstood my question..... I currently have an external hard drive that I have been using on a windows 7 computer. I recently purchased a new windows 10 computer and connected my external hard drive
    to the new computer. The new computer did not recognize the external hard drive and instructed me to reformat the hard drive. If I reformat my external hard drive I will lose all of the files....and I dont want that to happen. I want to keep the files on
    my hard drive AND be able to use the external hard drive with my new windows 10 computer. How can I do that?

    I have a Sonnics external hard drive that I wish to reformat, but it isn't showing up in File Explorer. It shows up in file explorer, I have tried the steps of deleting the drivers and rebooting, but it doesn't work.

    Is there a way i can reformat the drive without it appearing in file explorer or disk management
