Windows 10: How can I repair Win10 which cannot be booted?

A sequence of errors: My machine has been running Win10 Pro fine for years. I leave it running 24/7. One day, after being idle for several days, I was using it and it became slow. I have not recently installed anythingI rebooted and got a 0xc0000102 error about a corrupted pci.sys fileAny reboot leads to a repair screen but repair failsRebooting to any safe mode does not work, since the error occurs before windows starts, so repairing or updating or running setup from within a booted system is not an option. I've recently built a Win10 bootable USB, but I didn't know which ISO to use since W

laptop doesnt boot automatically

This is what happened.

1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Unable to Boot into Win10

I tried what you suggested, however it didn't do any good.

I tried to do the repair using Win10 on USB drive. But it threw me the same error# 0xc0000098 again. I can see my drive is detected in the BIOS.

But when I checked for the partitions in the Command Prompt, none of the drives are listed except for the USB drive which had the Win10 installation/repair media.

Is there any other solution to the problem?

Win10 System Repair Disk fails to boot

Hi,

I suggest you to perform start up repair from Windows Recovery Environment.

To get to Windows Startup Settings in the Windows Recovery Environment. You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

If you don't have a disk or USB, download the ISO from a working computer and try creating a bootable disk or USB.

• If you can't start your PC, follow these instructions to get to the Windows Recovery Environment.

• Start your computer from the installation media, Insert the DVD or USB flash drive and restart your computer.

• If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the DVD or USB.
• When you see the Install Windows page, tap or click Repair your computer to start the Windows Recovery Environment.
  
  • In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.
  
  • Tap or click, advanced options and then click on Startup repair.

After this complete the repair and see if you are able to boot in to your computer.
