Windows 10: How can I reset my laptop to get rid of a virus if I can’t reset it?

I stroll the internet a lot and I don’t have any super secure virus protection so recently I clicked on an ad and a virus was able to download on my laptop undetected it soon multiplied and has almost full control of my laptop. Whenever I sign into my account I get greeted with the normal desktop all my apps and everything working for about 2 seconds then Everything turns black for a split second then goes back. It does this over and over again and I can’t access any programs and files nothing will open not even my settings. So I decided i would reset the laptop completely so I have gone throu

i could not figure out what forum this should go in, so feel free to move to whatever forum it should be in.
a friend just called, and said he has 2 daughters and 2 dell laptops. his daughters have lost the password to both laptops. is there a way to reset the password without a full reformat? he said his daughters have a lot of music, pictures, ect. and wants to avoid reinstalling windows.
i know that a long time ago there was a jumper on the motherboard that would reset the password on a regular pc. is there such a jumper on a laptop? or is there any free software that would let him reset the passwords? he can not afford a dell tech to fix, and i told him i would see if there was a way to reset it without a format. thanks!

Can a computer virus possibly survive a factory reset? A friend brought over a heavily infected Windows 10 machine. I couldn't get anything to work as far as removing the infections. After performing a factory reset, it was infected about a day later. The virus that keep popping up, is koobface.
