How can I restore my location selection option it has been greyed out since a W10 Dec 2024 update. I am admin and the only user of my laptop. However I have been unable to restore the location setting to how it was previously. I keep updating when advised religuously hoping a new update will reverse the problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused for you, I suggest you to try the below troubleshooting steps and check If it helps.

Step 1: Steps to turn on the Location settings.

• Login as an administrator.
• Press Windows key, type Location settings and select
  Change location settings.
• Check whether Location for this device is On by clicking on
  Change.
• Also turn on Location as well.

Step 2: And as you are unable to set the service Geolocation service to automatic, I suggest you to run SFC scan and check.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start button, click on
  Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• 
  Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
  Enter.
  
• 
  After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.
  

Try to set the service to automatic by following the steps provided in the above post by Praveen Venugopal.

Location Service will not start and is greyed out

Location option is greyed out. I have tried may suggestion but this still will not work. I have selection Change but the option is still greyed out. Any help?

Let us try the following steps, and check if it helps.

• 
  
  Press Windows key + R.
  
• 
  
  In the run prompt type
  service.mscwithout quotes and select services.
  
• 
  
  Right click on
  Windows location framework Service,
  Click on
  Stop.
  
• 
  
  Once again
  rightclick on Windows
  location framework Service and click on
  Start.
  

Also, make sure theGeolocation Serviceis enabled.
