Restoring photos to WP8 in date order

I should add that when I look at the contents of the phone in File Explorer the pictures ARE in the right date order, despite there not being a "Date Taken" header available. But on the phone they appear in random order...

"Group my photos by time and location" is set to on.

I've also just discovered Storyteller is (mostly) listing them in the correct date sequence. So it seems it's just the Photos app that's not behaving...

I can't uninstall Photos. Don't say that I've done a hard reset and a restore to get Battery Saver working only to then run into a problem with Photos?!?!?!!???!!?!?!?!

 

How to order photos in File Explorer by date and time actually taken

I've run into a surprising problem keeping my photos in order in Windows.

I have photos from two Android phones and a Canon point and shoot camera that may be unedited, or edited on the phone app or by the standard photo apps on my PC and Mac laptops.

By default, Explorer sorts by file timestamp AKA modification date. When Explorer is in "Details" view you can right-click on the fields header and add various fields, including "Creation date".

So ordering by creation date allows you to avoid sorting edited photos as newer than unedited photos since this changes the modification date.

But it turns out that moving photos from the Android phones via the USB cable, which uses MTP or PTP behind the scenes, causes the photos to get a new "creation date" timestamp of the time the files are moved, rather than the time the photos were taken!

Is there some way I can organize all my photos by date and time actually taken since neither the creation date nor modification date can be replied upon to reflect the time the photo was taken?

 

How to organize photos by Date Taken AND Date Modified

Hi.

I have over 2000 photos on a jump drive that I have imported over the past 5 years. I'm trying to organize them by chronological order with "Date Modified" but there was a glitch and about 200 photos all have the same date when they were taken in a span
of 4 months. I tried organizing them by "Date Taken" but screenshot photos don't have a "Date Taken" timestamp. Is there a way I can organize photos by "Date Taken" AND organize photos by "Date Modified" (if they don't have "Date Taken.")

Any other suggestions or third party programs that converts the "Date Taken" TO "Date Modified"????
