Windows 10: How Can I Roll Back (Revert) the Windows Defender Platform Version

I am convinced that Version 4.18.1809.2 of the Windows Defender Antimalware Platform,

is causing Windows Defender Offline to fail to scan. Instead of loading the WDO UI, the

PC boots back into Windows, immediately after starting to configure WDO.


PCs with a Platform of this version will fail. PCs with the previous version, 4.18.1807.18075

will run WDO just fine. My attempts to roll back my Platform from 4.18.1809.2 have failed.


I am unable to get the procedure, described on the internet for this purpose, to run.

"Run command", %programdata%\microsoft\windows defender\platform\4.18.1809.2\

MpCmdRun.exe -revertplatform.


I have tried both Command Prompt (admin) and Powershell (admin).

Command Prompt breaks down between "Windows" and "Defender".


My PC first failed in v1803, with this platform. And the platform version was in "Update History".

It continues to fail at v1809. The history is cleared, of course. This Platform version can be seen

in both features at "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\<version>.


Any help in resolving the RollBack procedure, is most appreciated.

According to Windows Defender DDU has Malware in it.

Add DDU to the exclusion list either from there or the settings for Defender. Then you'll be fine. I've used DDU for years, and as-long-as you downloaded it from a reputable source you should be fine. If they offer MD5 hash checks that might be worth doing to make sure though if you're concerned your version is malicious.

Windows update reverted display to MS Basic Display Driver

Normally, this issue occurs when the drivers were being corrupted or updated after the recent update. Since you've already tried to install the latest driver, we suggest that you roll back to the previous driver and check if it helps to resolve the issue. To
do this, kindly follow the steps below:

• Open Device Manager.
  
• Double-click the device for which you want to roll back to the previous version of the driver, and then click
  Properties.
  
• Under the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver.
  
• Select OK.

Please be informed that, you cannot use upgrade Windows 7 disk to roll back.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to roll back to Windows 7 from Windows 10.

  Type settings in the search bar and click on Settings.

  Select Recovery from the left pane.
  
• 
  Under Go back to Windows 7 click on
  Get started and follow the onscreen instructions.
