Windows 10: How can I see all the files taking up space on my hard drive?

I have a 1TB HDD that really has a capacity of 931GB. I wanted to grab Microsoft Flight Simulator which is a big, big program so I was clearing out my hard drive and filtered the drive for files size:> 900MB and went down the list deleting various unnecessary files.

After this, when I look at the properties of my drive, it says 646GB are in use, but when I highlight the top level folders in the drive and check out properties they are only 340GB, almost exactly half what the drive properties says is in use.

I've looked around online and seen some posts saying that this is due to there being "hidden files and directories which contain system files that are not included in the calculation" but it seems sort of ridiculous to me that half the space taken up on my hard drive are system files. Are 300GB+ of those system files necessary and if not all of them are, how can I get a look at them to clear some out?

the next step after it finishes is to run disk clean again /clean up system files and when the box shows up click
on the more options tab there you can clean up programs you don't use and delete restore points which can take up space

Windows might have been accumulated large drive space due to installed apps, temporary files, or etc. For us to identify which item mostly accumulates your drive space, we suggest that you check it here:

• Click on Start.
• Type Storage, and then press Enter.
• Under Local Storage, click on This
  PC (C.
• On this window, you will see which item mot accumulate your drive space.

Windows File Explorer is not great at finding out where your hard drive space is being used . . .

• Click HERE to download a small free utility Called TreeSize.
  
• Run that utility as Administrator
• Point it to your C Drive
• Let the list of files/folders build
• Expand out the folder(s) that are taking all your hard drive space
• Please provide a screenshot of the resulting window in order for us to make a better analysis of what is happening with your system and suggest a remedy
