How can I set "Files on Demand" on one PC and not on a second PC?

I have two PCs. My main computer is a tower, and my backup is a laptop. They share the same OneDrive so my files are always synched between the two PCs. But, if I lose access to the Internet, I would still like to have access to my files, so I would like to keep "Files on Demand" on my tower, but turn that off on my laptop. How can I do that?

    :)

Qs re "Files On-Demand" checkbox in OneDrive Settings - Settings tab

    --
Over at AskWoody, Fred Langa’s articles on OneDrive are great -- see SPECIAL FREE EDITION: OneDrive @ AskWoody

But I have a question about the intersection of some OneDrive settings/features.

I just upgraded a family member’s PC to Win 10 and put one of our six MS 365 Family Office instances on her PC and started a new Outlook account for that user for the purposes of the MS 365 Family Office and its OneDrive. So it’s all new from the point of view of Office and OneDrive and she hasn’t selected any of her existing files or folders to backup or sync with OneDrive yet.

In the OneDrive Settings – Settings tab, should I leave the “Files On-Demand” box checked or uncheck it? My goal is to make EVERY new or existing file on the PC that she designates to sync or backup with OneDrive be “Always keep on this device” automatically.

    1. If I UNcheck the “Files On-Demand” box in Settings-Settings, will I achieve my goal? Or will I do something worse, like stop all syncing or backing up into OneDrive?
    2. On a different PC that’s had MS 365 Family for a long time and been syncing many files with OneDrive, and in which all the files have been the default “Files on demand” and the “Files On-Demand” box in Settings-Settings is checked, what happens if I now UNcheck the “Files On-Demand” box in Settings-Settings? Will a gazillion files suddenly become “Always keep on this device” and now download into the PC taking a lot of time to download? Will they continue to sync in the future?
Looking forward to your wisdom, but please specify which of my questions you are responding to.

    Thanks.

File History & OneDrive on Demand

I know that "files on demand" aren't saved on my computer. However, I still have the following problems:

    • After starting a new File History backup from scratch (as suggested in the first response) the majority of my Onedrive , including almost all files that are marked as "Always Keep on this Device" are not backed up.
    • Even for files marked as "Files on Demand" - surely File History should be able to back them up anyway? The whole point of a good backup system is that you have copies of files in multiple places (and OneDrive's cloud system only counts as 1). The creation
of the file history would be download heavy as it copies every file to my backup device, but after that it should only have to download single files as changes are made.

    PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??
