    How can I uninstall Spotify from my system even when it's already not in my system?


    Out of nowhere, the Spotify icon just became blank in my taskbar. I tried opening it, but it did not work. What I did was try to uninstall and reinstall, but Spotify isn't showing up in the control panel, Apps & features, Microsoft store, and Registry editor not super sure about this one. I already deleted Spotify from %appdata%, but whenever I try to reinstall it, I get a message that says "A Windows Store installation of Spotify was found in your system. Please uninstall that version, or update through the Windows Store." In other words, I can't install Spotify because it's apparently

    Spotify app makes system restore fail

    I just faced the same issue on Windows 10 1709 16299.192

    All system restore points created while Spotify app from Microsoft store was installed are in unusable state.

    Some other symptoms:

    - I was unable to uninstall Spotify app. Clicking Uninstall in start menu didn't do anything, and Spotify was not on the Programs list, both in settings and control panel.

    - I was able to uninstall Spotify app only in Safe Mode.

    - System restore points didn't work even after uninstalling Spotify app.

    P.S: This is scary. Probably I'll avoid any Microsoft Store app in the future. It doesn't make sense that system restore is effected by apps from the store. Isn't the whole point Store apps are isolated as in mobile OS's?

    I have just discovered two Spotify entries in the StartUp list in Task Manager.
    However there is no trace of Spotify elsewhere in the system.
    I went through the registry and deleted every reference to Spotify that could find, although some refused to be deleted.
    That made no difference.
    The store shows that Spotify is installed. Which is strange.
    However I found an entry in the Apps list in Start Menu, clicked uninstall and that cleared the problem.

    Spotify app makes system restore fail

    In my experience, the restore points made when the Spotify app was installed on the machine, are unusable, even after uninstallation of the Spotify app.

    But, when the Spotify app is uninstalled, and you create new restore points, these restore points are OK and can be used to do a system restore.
