Windows 10: How can I use the Brother MFC driver for scanning docs instead of the Windows 11 inferior...

I want to use the Brother MFC printer drivers, but Windows 11 prevents it. There is a software switch that says it will turn off the microsoft default scanner, but that still does not allow me to use the Brother driver. The Brother driver is far superior. How can I use the Brother Drriver and stop Wiindows 11 from making it difficult.

Brother MFC 490CW Scanning Problem

I have a Brother MFC 490CW all-in-one using Windows 11.

My unit is malfunctioning in the Scan to Email, Scan to OCR, Scan to Image functions. However, the Scan to File option is working.

In comparing the Windows 10 versus Windows 11 software download offerings for this model at the Brothers website, I noticed that for the Windows 10 version (32 and 64 bit), there is a preferred option called, “FULL SOFTWARE PACKAGE—FULL DRIVER AND SOFTWARE PACKAGE.” However, for the Windows 11 version, this option is not offered. Instead for Windows 11, a specific series of downloads are available for download---nothing is said that by downloading all of these specific options constitutes the original “FULL SOFTWARE PACKAGE—FULL DRIVER AND SOFTWARE PACKAGE” offered in Windows 10 and all previous iterations of Windows.

This differentiation in wording between the available Windows 10 and Windows 11 versions must have been made for some reason and I suspect that reason has something to do with my scanning problems.

My question is this: Is the individual software download offerings Brother has listed for the Windows 11 version—taken together--- identical to the software bundle offered by Brother for the Window 10 version? That is to say, is the Windows 11 version missing anything that was included in the Windows 10 version? Specifically, any software pertaining to the scanning functions of this unit?

 

Brother MFC J6720DW listed with strange icon in Devices and Printers

I have reinstalled the drivers for my Brother MFC J6720DW and now the printer icon is listed in the unspecified category instead of the printer category. The printer is the "Device" icon to the right.





Right clicking on the icon shows the usual items for a printer (printing properties etc.), In addition it shows a "Browse Files" entry that lists the card reader of the printer.





To the left of the Brother printer icon there is another similar one that seems to be my USB card reader

 

Network Scanning with Brother MFC-8870DW

I have a Brother MFC-8870DW Printer/Scanner/Fax. Prior to upgrading to Windows 10 I was able to print and scan over the network. After upgrading to Windows 10 I can only print over the network. I can only scan if I am directly connected to the device with
a USB cable.

I contacted Brother about the issue and they told me that Microsoft is responsible for the functionality of the built-in driver starting with Windows 8. Does Microsoft have a driver or application that allows network scanning with the Brother MFC-8870DW?
