  1. How can someone remotely hack my PC?

Alright, so I built my PC, keep windows defender running, and only use it for gaming and Microsoft office. No sketchy websites, no porn, don't want to risk my $2000 pc. But today, I got a text from American Express that I was spending unusually. Call them, then Amazon emails. Call them, then PayPal. I get out of bed to go to my PC, and the mouse is moving around digging through website history and trying to find more things to buy!

Needless to say I'm very concerned. I am currently moving my vacation photos to a USB, the computer is unplugged from the internet, and I will be nuking it back to factory specs. How on Earth does this happen?!

    :)

    windowsphone security

Any device with software can be hacked. Data sufficiently encrypted cannot as of now be hacked. My windowsphone has been totally taken over remotely by a persistent hacker. I don't use the device remotely nor other devices remotely with my windows phone.
Hacking code is being dl'd by piggy backing onto updates/downloads. How do I stop this problem? Also, where are detailed instructions/info for programs such as the Authenticator? Thanks.

How can someone remotely hack my PC?

RDPs, trojans and other malware they bring in with them, pirated software, keygens, compromised web sites, hacked routers or routers with default passwords, infected ads, people who may have physical access to your system - there are tons of ways a computer can be compromised.
    Some ideas for safe computing:
Never save passwords in your browser.
Never save credit cards in online accounts.
Always clear cache & browser history when closing your browser.
Change your email, banking and PayPal passwords on a regular basis, and use 2-factor authentication on everything that offers it.
Use a VPN to keep your information safe from MITM attacks.

Check if your email address(es) have been posted on the dark web:
Have I been pwned? Check if your email has been compromised in a data breach

One thing you might want to do, is make a Macrium image of a pristine W10 OS install and put it in a safe place. If you ever have this happen again, you can just re-image your drive, and not have to go through a whole installation again.

  5. Very easily, there are people, who spend 24/7 just trying to find out, how to exploit others.

For starters, setup a safe DNS. Something like Norton Family or Open DNS Family. Porn hosts a lot of malware.

Use a firewall, Windows Firewall allows all outbound by default, basically it lets everyone to connect to you.

Consider Free Firewall or ZoneAlarm Free Firewall

Download Hitman Pro, the Free version scans your PC at startup, the scan takes like 2-3 mins.

Additionality, run CMD as admin and copy/paste. This blocks about 90% of malware from working properly.
    Code: reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings" /v "Enabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f[/quote]

  6. As others have mentioned there are numerous ways someone could have gotten into your system. Without doing some forensics on your system it'll be impossible to say what happened this time.

    • What programs have you downloaded? Have you received any unexpected Office documents or PDFs? While a drive-by infection is possible, most malware comes from something the user opened or ran.
    • Do you keep Windows up-to-date with all the updates?
    • How are you connected to the Internet? Do you go through a router or are you directly connected?
      • If you go through a router does the manufacturer regularly release security fixes (and do you install them)?
    • Are you on a WiFi network? Is it password-protected with a strong WPA2 password?
    • Do you have other Internet-connected devices on the same network (e.g. cameras, baby monitors, etc.)? Do those manufacturers release security fixes?

Have you ever downloaded CCleaner as they had a problem recently with malware being inserted into their code so was automatically downloaded with the CCleaner update?
