How can you prevent Excel from changing the date format when inserting data from another file?

: How can you prevent Excel from changing the date format when inserting data from another file? When data from several files in a folder are imported and combined into one Excel file via the “Get data” command, the date sometimes changes format e.g., from 14.02.2024 to 44971. Sometimes, this can be resolved by selecting "Format Cells" and then choosing the date format, but often it cannot. This happens if the format of the date cell differs in one of the files i.e. if it is left-justified instead of right-justified – even if the cell has the same date format: all subsequent files imported

    :)

Excel inserts a bizarre graph when I try to insert a column and bar chart into my worksheet.

    Hello! Gregory Powell

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I understand that you’re experiencing issues with Excel when creating a column and bar chart. Allow me to ask:

    • Are you using Excel web online? or Excel application?
    • What version and edition of Office do you have installed in your device? Example: Personal/Family/Enterprise?
      • You can open any Office apps
      • Go to File > Accounts - on the right side you can see Product Information
    • Is this happening to other files? or just specific file?
    • Can I ask for a screenshot of the concern? as I do not see the picture in the post.
    • Is the file shared by someone else? or originally created by you?

    Let’s troubleshoot this together!

    1. Data Display Issue:
    2. Repair Excel: If you are using Excel application try this step.
      • Let’s make sure your Excel installation is up to date and functioning correctly:
        • Open Excel.
        • Go to File > Account.
        • Under Product Information, click on “Update Options” and select “Update Now” to install any pending updates.
        • If the issue persists, try running a “Quick Repair”:
          • Open Microsoft Windows Settings.
          • Click Apps to open the Apps & features window.
          • Find and click your Microsoft application in the list.
          • Select Modify, then choose “Quick Repair” and follow the on-screen instructions.
          • Restart your computer after the repair.
        • If the problem still persists, consider running an “Online Repair”:
          • Repeat the steps above, but select “Online Repair” this time.
          • Re-open your Excel workbook and create the graph again to check if the issue is resolved.
    3. Image Insertion:
      • You mentioned inserting an image into the chart. While I can’t directly see the image, I recommend checking the following:
        • Ensure that the image is properly inserted and not hidden behind other elements.
        • Verify that the image is in a supported format (such as JPEG or PNG).
        • Try resizing the chart or adjusting its layout to see if the image becomes visible.
    4. Windows 11 Details:
      • Your Windows 11 system appears to be running smoothly, and your hardware specifications are robust.

We will also leave the thread open for any volunteer moderators to join in and share their opinion/suggestions to help you with your concern.

Remember, troubleshooting can be a step-by-step process, so feel free to ask for more help if needed. Good luck, and I hope we can resolve this issue for you!

    Thank you,

    Vince

How can you prevent Excel from changing the date format when inserting data from another file?

(WORD) Can I change the format of already-entered dates?

    (Win 10 ver. 1903, OS Build 18362.778)

I am trying to create a timeline for a fictional setting based on the real world, and I have two questions concerning that

I originally started making the timeline in Excel 365, but there were limitations that irked me, like not being able to change the cell padding, and not being able to use bookmarks or create an index, so I pasted it into a Word 365 document instead. But now, I'm missing one of the Excel 365 features; automatic date format. These are my questions

    1) Is there any way to convert the format of existing date data in a TABLE? I can only find instructions online for setting the date format and inserting Today's Date, and that's of no use to me, since I'm working with dates in the past. I tried looking in "Find & Replace", but couldn't see anything that would obviously accomplish that. If there is a way to bulk-convert highlighted date data into a different format in Word 365? I would appreciate learning it if there is one

    2) is there a way to set an automatic format for dates in a single column of a Word 365 Table.

I fear that it might end up requiring using the Word VBA Compiler to accomplish it, and I'm basically a cave-man when it comes to Virtual Basic.

Please help me if you can, and thanks in advance for anyone who has a solution, or suggestions to try to find the solution.
