Windows 10: How come the fullscreen game I'm playing "freezes" when i click on my second monitor?

I'll be playing a game through Steam, and I might want to change the video I'm watching on my second monitor. So I Alt-Tab to switch focus so my cursor can move to the second monitor, because fullscreen games smartly remove that ability, but when I click on a window on my second monitor, everything freezes for about a second. The game window will go fully black, the video I'm watching will pause, the audio will keep playing and everything will be normal a second after I click. This isn't so bad most of the time, but those times when I'm frequently switching between games and wikis or videos on

Lag on second monitor usually in videos when playing games on fullscreen on first monitor

I just upgraded from a much worse computer (using windows 10) to a better one (using windows 11). My problem is however after upgrading that I start lagging alot on my second monitor when playing games on my main monitor in fullscreen mode. It is quite bad and mainly happens if I watch youtube videos and such on the second monitor. It does not matter what game Im playing.

Computer freezes when playing games on second monitor

I have a Lenovo Z710 laptop that has two GPUs: an NVIDIA GeForce GT 745M and the Intel integrated graphics. When I don't have a second monitor hooked up to my laptop, games run without any issues; if I hook up the second monitor through VGA it runs fine until I start playing a game, and my computer freezes completely to the point where I have to force it to restart. It's never instant - sometimes it takes one hour for the freeze to happen - sometimes only 20 minutes.

It seems like the freeze happens only when I'm using GT745M GPU while second monitor is connected to laptop. GPU drivers are up to date and I don't know what else to do to troubleshoot this problem.

 

Preventing resolution breaking when playing a game fullscreen

I am sorry if the title sounds misleading, I'm not entirely sure how to best word this. I have a 3840x2160p monitor. When I play demanding games I usually have to play at a lower resolution. However I also want to play fullscreen otherwise the game will be confined to a small window, but then it breaks the resolution of the desktop and of the second screen, moving all the open windows in odd places...

Is there a way to play fullscreen at lower resolution without impacting either the second monitor or other windows size and position? Failing that, maybe a way to play in borderless fullscreen at lower resolution?
