How comes, that windows still forces Default audio devices on me when plugging new ones in ??

Hi, how can this still be an issue around ... plugging in game controllers etc or anything that could have a mic or audio port or speakers, windows completely **** over my settings and changes default devices around ?? and no disabling is not an option !! cause for example my game controller needs the mic , and speaker enabled to have rumble features and others needed for the ps5 remoteplay...i hate it, everytime i plug it into a new usb port, i have to rebind my Default audio, and communication device, aswell as my default mic ... give us a setting to enable auto switching or not .. or tell u

    :)

    Numerous audio devices - why?

See attached screenshot. I just got a new, bespoke PC and I'm confused as to why so many audio devices are listed.

The majority, as you can see, are coming up as "not plugged in". There seem to be two that are active - the system's default output and something called Realtek Audio HD.

    Questions:

    1) Why so many?
    2) What's the difference between the two active ones, and which should I use?

    Thanks in advance.

Sennheiser GSP 350. Microphone stops working when I open any game

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

    Step by step fix:
    • I went into recording devices
    • I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
    • Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
    • Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't
Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?

Set new audio device default for volume mixer in Windows 10

    I use two audio devices:

    • Default (audio) device "Realtec Digital Output (Optical)"
    • Default communication device "Lautsprecher (Speaker)"

    My goal:
I want to have the default audio volume on my default communication device, instead of the default device - at all times.

    What I tried so far:
Changing the volume mixer to my communication device explicitly works temporary, but as soon as I close the settings window, the default audio volume is reset again to the default audio device.

Step 1: Clicking on volume shows me the default device:

Step 2: Changing the volume mixer to my communication device manually:

Step 3: Clicking again on volume does not keep the change How comes, that windows still forces Default audio devices on me when plugging new ones in ?? :(

How can I make it permanent that windows uses my communication device for default volume control?
