  1. How could File History fail to save important files? I thought it was almost invincible....

Recently, I've found a couple of folders to be empty of important files. I use a password manager and all recent files for the password manager were missing. Particularly distressing was the fact that even folders saved by File History were deficient with only a few assorted files remaining available. All recent edits done in the past few days seem to have vanished. Please let me know how to find these files and avoid this issue in the future. Thank You.

    :)

    Saves log files ?

You can either read the files in Windows or my preferred method is.....

    Download CCcleaner from here...........

    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

You can then run cleaner, you will see the log files listed, then if you right click you can save as a text file and then have a read. You may also get an "error reporting" log listed seperatly.

  3. File History saves and shows empty folders

    Hi Jeffrey,

I recommend you to select a different File History drive and check if the issue persists.

Also I suggest you to Change how long File History keeps files.

    Refer the below steps

    1. Press Windows key + X from the Keyboard and click on Control panel.

    2. Control panel Window will be open, change the View by: Category to Large icons to Small icons.

    3. Click on File history and click on Advanced settings.

    4. Next to Save copies of files, tap or click the list, and choose a time interval.

    5. Next to Keep saved versions, tap or click the list, and choose a time interval.

    6.Click on Save changes

    Note:
File History doesn't automatically delete versions of files older than the time interval you choose unless your drive is getting full and space is needed to back up more recent versions

Also, I suggest to Reconnect the drive and Reselect your File History drive

Refer the below link and check if helps

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...f3eda7c5b2b/reconnect-your-file-history-drive

Hope the above information was helpful. If you need further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.

How to remove folders from File History

    • I had the same problem, and I solved in this way:
Control Panel -> System and Security-> File History -> Turn off
Settings -> Update & Security -> Backup -> More options -> Stop using this drive
Delete the File History folder in your external drive.
      Start using File History again.
After performing these steps, I can easily add folders to "Excluded Folders" and they remain excluded. I checked in the actual files and folders saved on the external disk, and it works.
I did not modify the default settings about how often and how long backup is saved, File History is working ok now. So I guess it is important to click "Stop using this drive" in order to reset File History.
      Hope this will be helpful
