Windows 10: How did McAfee got installed into my laptop?

I got my ASUS TUF F15Dash laptop last year. I've been ignoring this macfee notification for a long time now, but it just occurred to me that what if it's a virus. I don't think that i saw this notification for a month or two after I purchased my laptop. I also can't find it into my apps list so that I can delete this. What is it & can it be a virus? How do i remove it?

Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. I would suggest you to un-install/re-install McAfee and check.

• 
  Press Windows key + X and select
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Programs and features, right click on the
  McAfee and select uninstall it.
  
• 
  Now install it again.

Hi, if you get an indication that your AV has detected a virus, you should take that seriously. Don't simply uninstall the AV or disable it.

You say

- do you mean it's disabled? (Many functions will be if you have a 3rd party AV installed).

- did nothing happen at all, or did it start to uninstall, or what?

Are you even sure you have McAfee AV installed- or do you have one of their other products - see those listed here:

If McAfee is damaged in some manner you could try to uninstall it. Here are two ways:
McAfee Consumer Support- Official Site

Methods 1 & 2.
Method 2 uses a separate tool you download. Most AV's have such a tool.

If you do that you should find Defender is fully enabled again, and you should ensure it's up to data and run a full scan.
